My Town: Spring Fling for Women Returns on March 29

GREENVILLE, Mich.-- The Daily News offers women the opportunity to focus on health, empowerment and style during this spring event.

With more than 40 vendors, women have the chance to learn ways to improve their health, shop their favorite stores and home-based businesses and check out the latest fashion trends.

The businesses are nominated by staff or community members.  Judges then whittle down the pool to 101 winners, based on communication, work-life balance, employee education, diversity, recognition, retention and other categories.    This year’s winners are:

My Town Greenville: Instructors needed for new Artfully Yours Paint Bar

GREENVILLE, Mich.—The Greenville Area Community Center is looking for artists to lead classes in its new social art studio, Artfully Yours Paint Bar.

Artfully Yours Paint Bar will begin sessions this spring.  Classes will first be offered on a monthly basis on Saturdays until demand increases.  Grant funding by the Greenville Area Community Foundation means classes should be very affordable, but exact prices are not yet available.  Adults can enjoy drinks from the studio’s cash bar; snacks will also be available.  At the end of the night, each participant will take home their finished artwork.

My Town Greenville: Locally made appliances featured on DIY Network

GREENVILLE, Mich.—If you flipped your TV onto the DIY Network this past weekend, you may have spotted a renovation made possible by a Greenville manufacturer.

The season four premiere of the “Vanilla Ice Project” featured a state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen equipped with a variety of appliances made by AGA MARVEL of Greenville.  A request for the industry’s largest refrigerator/freezer led show host Vanilla Ice to AGA Marvel, which had a 72” model. The episode, titled “The Killer Kitchen” also included an AGA professional dishwasher and a three-oven AGA Total Control range cooker, which features touch screen controls.

The new kitchen is part of a 3,000 square foot home in Lake Worth, Florida.

Date set for Belding Community Showcase

 BELDING, Mich.—The date is set for this year’s Belding Community Showcase.

On Thursday, April 17, students, school staff, organizations and businesses will come together o showcase their activities and projects.  The displays and demonstrations will take place from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. throughout Belding High School.  Participants can also stop at snack stations that will be located around the building.

GREENVILLE, Mich.—While many Michiganders are dealing with single digit temperatures, Dairy Queen of Greenville is already preparing for a new season of ice cream.

The business will open for the season Friday, Jan. 31. Dairy Queen of Greenville is currently looking for crew members and a part-time cake decorator.  Potential applicants can mail their resume to the store, located at 101 W. Washington St., Greenville, MI 48838.

Spectrum Health releases list of top baby names of 2013

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—The two most popular baby names in West Michigan last year are reclaiming the top spot again in 2013.

“Emma” and “Liam” remain No. 1 on Spectrum Health’s list of Top 10 Baby Names for 2013.  For girls, the only new moniker to break into the top 10 was “Charlotte.”   However, seven new boys’ names made the cut this year, with only “Liam,” “Gabriel” and “Noah” returning from 2012.
