Belding Water Quality

Belding Water Quality

From: http://www.belding.us

The City of Belding would like to assure you that the City's drinking water is safe for drinking and is not affected by the groundwater contamination at the Electrolux site. The drinking water is tested on a regular basis in accordance with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) requirements.

In addition, in the late 1990's, we took the step to go above and beyond the necessary requirements by voluntarily implementing a Well Head Protection Program Plan in order to ensure the highest standards for the users of Belding's municipal water supply. The purpose of this plan is to protect the area's public water supply system from contamination. The plan is updated on a regular basis and approved by the MDEQ.

GREENVILLE - A high school class at Greenville Public Schools (GPS) is gathering information generated by the school's solar panels to help prepare for the future.

Brian Sullivan, a biology and natural resources teacher at the high school, took his sixth-hour students on the roof to analyze how the solar panels work.

The panels, manufactured by United Solar Ovonic, were installed as part of the GreenERville project in October of last year.

Sullivan said the students were able to see what the panels looked like, how the panels worked and where the energy went.

Serena Reamer said she was surprised when they...

Belding residents comment on new Mueller Brass emissions permit

By Cory Smith
From The Daily News

BELDING - Elvis Preston has a unique view of the Mueller Brass lead pollution issue.

He works at the brass rod manufacturing plant at 302 Ashfield St. and lives so close he can walk to work - and in the lead contamination area east of the facility.

Preston was one of two people to make comments on the record Monday during a public hearing for residents to weigh in on a new air emissions permit for Mueller Brass.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) hosted the hearing at the Belding Area Schools Administration Building in conjunction with an update on clean up of contaminated soil in the neighborhood.

Both comments made Monday questioned the effectiveness of raising Mueller Brass' chip dryer smokestacks to 122 feet from their current height of 30 feet.

Preston, who lives near the plant on Merrick...
