GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – To honor all those who sacrificed their lives during the terrorist events of September 11, 2001, the Gerald R. Ford Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation and Museum hosted the 13th annual Day of Remembrance and Scout Salute from sunrise to sunset on September 11, 2014. My Town Belding: Registration deadline nears for citywide garage sale

BELDING, Mich.—Bargain hunters beware- a citywide garage sale is coming to Belding.

The event will take place Friday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 20 on 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on .

City officials are putting together maps of each registered garage sale location; each registered seller must pay $5 to appear on the map. The registration fee also covers advertising and a brief description of each garage sale.

The deadline for registration is 4 p.m. Sept. 15.  For a registration form, visit City Hall.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- The 2014-2015 school year is officially underway for West Michigan students.

On Sept. 2, which was the official start of classes for most schools, State Superintendent Mike Flanagan released this statement: 

"It’s a great day to be Back to School in Michigan !

Let me take a moment to wish everyone a positive and successful school year.

Our team here at the Michigan Department of Education, the State Board of Education, and I appreciate the hard work and daily dedication teachers, administrators, school board members, and other school staff devote to our children in Michigan.

My Town: Belding Labor Day celebration to include WWI monument dedication

BELDING, Mich.—The City of Belding is getting ready to celebrate Labor Day all weekend long.

The Belding Labor Day Celebration kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29 when operators fire up the carnival rides.  Visitors can also enjoy live music, food and a nighttime parade down Bridge Street.

Games, contests, a car show and performances will entertain visitors Saturday.  Sunday, the community will celebrate its veterans with the dedication of the new World War I monument at Veterans Park.

The festivities run through Monday, Sept. 1. The 109th Stahlin Labor Day Parade down Bridge Street will kick off at 11 a.m. Monday.

My Town: Four communities host Labor Day prayer for farmers

GREENVILLE, Mich.--  The seeds have been sewn and the fields have been managed; now three West Michigan churches and an Ionia farm are turning to prayer for a safe and fruitful 2014 harvest.

Community members are encouraged to take part in this season’s prayer for farmers, which will take place on Labor Day, Sept. 1 at 10 a.m.   Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Kent City, Calvary Baptist Church in Greenville, Rudd Farms at 1426 W. GRANDVILLE, Mich.—The back-to-school shopping season is here, and Macy’s is giving customers a charitable reason to open up their wallets.

The department store is holding its ninth annual “Shop For A Cause” event on Saturday, Aug. 23.  Customers who purchase a $5 shopping pass at any of Mel Trotter Ministries four thrift store locations can enjoy special discounts, entertainment and http://www.meltrotter.org exclusive events at the Macy’s in Grandville.  All proceeds from the pass sale will go to Mel Trotter.
