My Town Belding: Residents encouraged to run water to prevent frozen pipes | Families
BELDING, Mich.—The City of Belding is encouraging residents to run their water to prevent frozen pipes and water lines.
Residents should let their water run in a toothpick-size stream, to keep the water flowing as the frost depth nears five feet below ground. With the forecast calling for below freezing temperatures, the frost will likely travel deeper into the ground, leading to more frozen service lines.
City Manager Meg Mullendore says the city will reduce water rates as a result of its request.
The city is also suggesting residents keep their cupboard doors open to allow heat inside the area around pipes, to help prevent freezing.
