My Town Greenville: District surveying community about alternative school year

GREENVILLE, Mich.—Greenville Public Schools is turning to the community to help decide if it should move away from the traditional academic calendar.

The district sent home a letter with students this week, notifying their parents and guardians about the online survey. The district’s is encouraging parents and all community members to take the survey to determine the best schedule for students.  The survey is available online here.  All feedback is due March 15. The results will be reviewed by the district’s Alternative Calendar Committee.

Baldwin Heights Elementary School Principal Michael Walsh says the district began investigating alternative academic calendars before the snow days began piling up.   The district is already faced with extending the school year into the second week of June, because inclement weather led to so many class cancellations.
