My Town Greenville: Students celebrate last day of school

GREENVILLE, Mich.—It’s the day the students of Greenville Public Schools have been waiting months for: the last day of school.

The district had to push back the end of the school year this year due to the harsh winter weather.  Greenville and Ionia public schools are among the last districts to dismiss students for the summer, after accumulating too many snow days to meet the state’s minimum requirements for instructional hours.

Many other districts ended the school year on time, after Governor Snyder signed a law giving districts with more than 174 school days on their calendar additional snow day relief, provided they met the required 1,098 hours of yearly instruction.
