Montcalm Area ISD superintendent appointed to Public School Employees' Retirement System Board

LANSING, Mich. - Gov. Rick Snyder today appointed Scott M. Koenigsknecht to the Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System Board.

The board is responsible for general oversight of retirement, survivor and disability benefits to employees in public school districts, intermediate school districts and certain community colleges and universities.

"Scott's background in the education field will help him to provide valuable insight and input to the board as it works to provide retirement options for public school employees," Snyder said.

BELDING - Jared Cardosa is normally a sound sleeper.

Luckily for his 9-year-old sister, Tara, that wasn't true on the night of Jan. 6.

Jared, 10, awoke for an unknown reason around 2 a.m.

"Thinking he would use the bathroom and go back to sleep, he started down the hall," said his mother, Sharnel Rackham.

Her husband, Matt Rackham, had left for work 30 minutes earlier.

Jared heard a gurgling noise coming from Tara's room, went in and saw she was having a seizure.

"He picked her up out of bed and laid her on the floor on her left side, he called 911, explained to them that she is diabetic, he pricked her finger to test her blood (glucose) levels, which was 239 (mg/dl), gave the information to the dispatcher, gave them directions to our house - then he went and woke me up," Sharnel said.

A Special Welcome to MCC's New Subway Manager

After a quality search to find a new Subway manager, MCC hired Lisa Castro.  Lisa is no stranger to this area and to Subway.  She was previously employed at a Subway in Rockford as a sandwich artist.  Prior to Subway, she served at Greenville Public Schools.  She possesses an Associates degree in Applied Science.  Her first day working at the Subway inside MCC's cafeteria was June 27th, 2011.  Students, look for Lisa this fall.  Welcome aboard!

MCC's Club for Veterans -- Meeting on July 6, 2011

Many of MCC's students are veterans.  The college has a club to support veterans in their educational journey.  The club meets on July 6th, 2011, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Doser Building (D317).  If you need more information or would like to join, contact advisor Doug Reinsmith at douglasr@montcalm.edu or 989-328-1288.

Meet MCC's New Student Success Coordinator -- Jessica Gilbertson

Earlier this summer, MCC posted six positions to be filled.  It's time to introduce the community to the new Student Success Coordinator, Jessica Gilbertson.  Jessica is a graduate of GHS, a former member of the United States Army, and college graduate of both MCC and Aquinas.  She possesses a degree in secondary education, and she spent a full year at MCC as a science adjunct, DVED lab instructor, and College Success instructor. 

MCC is very lucky to have Jessica in this new position.  Student success is vital to the college's mission.

Congrats to Greenville's Danish Queen Marissa Roy

Congrats to Greenville's Danish Queen Marissa Roy in Talent Competition for Miss Michigan 2011

Marissa Roy couldn't have said it better herself:  "Hard work pays off!! Non finalist talent winner."  Roy won $500.00 from the Miss Michigan pageant for executing her marimba with precession and grace.  The community of Greenville is extremely proud of our Danish queen.

Meet Greenville’s Favorite Man with a Plunger – Bo the Plumber

I first met him in my mom’s house.  He was under the sink.  Normally, it’s quite difficult to do ten things at once.  For Bo Stephenson, I believe that it’s his specialty.  We were carrying on an engaging conversation as a dish washer was installed, pipes were fixed, and appliances were running.  I soon realized that I needed to keep Bo’s information in my back pocket.   Bo is just one of those guys you need to "know."
