The Fred Meijer Flat River Trail is Complete! Join us for the Ribbon Cutting and Celebration of the Completion of the Fred Meijer Flat River Trail!

When: June 23, 2011 @ 10:00 a.m.
Where: N.E. Corner of the Meijer Parking Lot

Followed by a wellness walk, bicycle ride, and golf cart tour of the trail. Following the tour will be a Maranda in the Park Party held at the Greenville Public School’s practice fields.

Local libraries hold used book sales

Local libraries hold used book sales

Clear your shelves and make room for more.

On Friday April 29th, the Friends of the Flat River Library will hold a used book sale at two local libraries. The Alvah & Belding Library will hold its used book and cookie sale in the Stafford Room from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Also the Flat River Community Library will hold its first of three annual used book sales on Friday April 29th, as well as Saturday, April 30th. Both days are slated to run from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Donation have been collected year round by volunteers. In the past years, proceeds are used to upgrade library equipment and develop learning programs, in addition to purchasing new books. Prices can range from 25 cents to $3.

Besides hard- and soft-covered books, items available for sale include videos, DVDs,game and puzzle books, and much more. The Belding Library will hold a silent auction of select books which feature artist Mary Casatt and others.

Spring into the Past

"Spring into the Past" at one of your local museums! 

The Belding Museum, along with the many others in the Tri-River Museum Network, will be open on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Many of the museums will have special displays or events commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Locally, a special exhibit, "Weddings Revisited," will highlight bridal fashions throughout the century. Visitors will have a chance to guess the couples featured in several wedding photos.

Belding Library hosts autobiographer

On Wednesday, April 20th, the Alvah N. Belding Library will host author, Virgil Westdale.  Mr. Westdale penned his autobiography, "Blue Skies and Thunder", which accounts his wartime experiences as a Japanese-American serving in the military and his role as a World War II camp liberator.

The event has changed and will begin at 1:00pm.

The library is requesting reservations. To reserve your spot, please call the library at 616-794-1450.
