Greenville’s Big Boy restaurant gets new look and menu

Greenville’s Big Boy restaurant gets new look and menu

By Mike Taylor

GREENVILLE — Big Boy may still be a little on the chubby side, but in Greenville, at least, the burger-toting trademark of this venerable restaurant recently underwent a major makeover. The Greenville Big Boy, located at 1500 W. Washington St., is one of a handful of franchises in the nationwide chain to receive major renovations.
According to Big Boy assistant manager Briana Foley, the restaurant took part in a contest to be among a select group to undergo the renovations.

“This was a company wide contest to see who was going to be good enough to take part in this pilot program,” Foley said. “We were good enough. We are setting a higher standard for Big Boy.”

Among the changes are a greatly expanded menu, as well as a completely revamped buffet containing several previously unavailable choices and additional meat items.

A Special Welcome to MCC's New Subway Manager

After a quality search to find a new Subway manager, MCC hired Lisa Castro.  Lisa is no stranger to this area and to Subway.  She was previously employed at a Subway in Rockford as a sandwich artist.  Prior to Subway, she served at Greenville Public Schools.  She possesses an Associates degree in Applied Science.  Her first day working at the Subway inside MCC's cafeteria was June 27th, 2011.  Students, look for Lisa this fall.  Welcome aboard!

We’re All Lovin’ The Meat Shack in Greenville

We’re All Lovin’ The Meat Shack in Greenville

Jeff and Suzy Raven opened The Meat Shack's doors on March 4, 2011.  For my mother, who had lived in Bay City for 65 years before moving to Greenville, the store couldn’t have possibly opened its doors fast enough.  Mom was used to local meat markets, and she’d still make the two hour hike to Jack’s Market in Bay City if it hadn’t been for the arrival of “the shack.”

Mom, like most Greenville residents who have experienced The Meat Shack, are completely lovin’ everything this place has to offer.  My husband is a huge fan of their beef jerky, and mom cannot get enough of their homemade sausages and fresh meat.  In addition to having a wide range of meat available, there is also a deli inside that offers hot food and sandwiches (and lots more).

Come and Meet Chris from Chef’s Hand Specialties—Greenville’s Personal Chef

I remember the conversation clearly on Facebook.  “Hey, Chef Chris is back.”  A celebration erupted online.  I had no idea who Chris was and why he apparently had a following.  I needed to know more.

“He’s our favorite food man, of course,” a variety of Greenvillites responded with sheer enthusiasm.  Who?  What?  Where?  I had so many questions.  What have I been missing?
