Organizers present Rivertown Bike Week Expo plans to the city council

BELDING, Mich.—We’re learning more about the inaugural Rivertown Bike Week Expo, which is planned for July 22 through July 25.

Organizers tell the Belding City Council they will tap local vendors for the event.  Proceeds from Rivertown Bike Week Expo will benefit the local memorial park, community organizations and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Traffic wise, organizers are planning for shutdowns similar to what the city experiences during Labor Day. Depot Street would close and so would portions of parking lots.  Central Riverside Park would be used for vendors.

Elementary students join fight against cancer during Relay Recess

GREENVILLE, Mich.--  Students from Walnut Hills Elementary school took left their desks for a few hours Monday to join the fight against cancer.

Relay Recess is a youth-focused version of the traditional Relay for Life.  Monday’s event featured volleyball, a dance part and relay races. Many of the activities held during Relay Recess teach children how to make healthy choices to reduce their risk of cancer.

Cancer survivors kicked off Monday’s event with a survivor walk.  The children also walked laps in honor of those who have been touched by cancer.

This is the second year for Relay Recess; last year students raised more than $1,500 to support Relay for Life of Montcalm County.  This year’s Relay For Life will take place June 14 through June 15.  To find out how you can help, call 1-800-227-2345 or visit the Relay For Life website here
